Hi Amy,

Thank you for this great pattern. Roughly how many 4″ face scrubbies will I be able to make from the 20 yards of cotton yarn?

Thank you so much for this pattern! I was looking to make some make-up remover sponge type thingies and I think these are perfect to use with micellar water!!

I have just one question: do you think bamboo yarn would work well for this as well? or is cotton better?

Thank you so much!!

Hi Sofi! What a great idea! I’m actually not sure how the bamboo yarn would work as I have only tested these with cotton. It is definitely something to try though!

Hi Amy! These are so cute! I have made 4 so far and plan to keep going. Mine are so hole-y looking and yours look snug! I believe my yarn gauge is the same and I’m using the same size hook. Any suggestions? I am new to crocheting so am still learning lots! Thanks for such a cute easy pattern!

Hi Caira! What kind of yarn are you using? Some cotton is thinner than others and leaves the scrubbies looking more holey. You can try using a thicker yarn or try making the puff stitch heftier with an extra yarn over. Hope that helps!

Every pattern I’ve seen for these recommends cotton yarn – I have loads of wool yarn left over from past projects, is there a downside or reason for not using wool yarn for these?

Hi Tess! I think cotton is more popular because a lot of people are allergic to wool. Cotton is also easier to wash/dry. It really is a personal preference and you can feel free to use whatever yarn you like.

I’m confused. How many puff stitches and how many loops for puff stitch? You have 3,5,7, and 9 loops? Which one?

Hi Susan. I have posted the instructions for the puff stitch. I indicated how many loops you will have on your hook each time you insert your hook into the stitch and pull up a loop. You should have 9 loops on your hook at the end before yarning over and pulling through all of the loops to create the puff stitch. Also, the pattern indicates how many puff stitches you should have at the end of Round 3 in the stitch count.

Just made two whole sets in chocolate milk peaches and cream for my secret sisters for church so excited to give them on Sunday 😊 Thank you for these awesome patterns

I just made one (gonna make several for our spa night) and it was my first time with puff stitch. It was so much fun and sooooo pretty! I used a variegated lime green and can’t wait to make more. Thank you for such a great pattern!

Everyone is stating that they are having issues with it laying flat. Could this have anything to do with an extra stitch that is missing from your instructions?

Round 4: Ch 1. Sc in the top of each puff st and in each ch-1 space around. Fasten off and join with an invisible join for a neater, outer edge. Weave all ends. (48)

It states to sc in each puff AND EACH CH-1 SPACE…..There were no instructions to do a ch 1 after each puff

Thank you so much; I am making a Spa Gift Basket for a charity event and this is PERFECT! Exactly what I was looking for!

I love this pattern! I’m having trouble making them lay flat though. I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong…any tips?

Hi Angela! It could be a gauge issue or the puffs could be too tight. Try going up a hook size with the puffs and try loosening the tension when making them to see if that helps

I followed the pattern and ended up with a circle that is not flat. Once I started the puff stitch it caused the circle to raise along the ends as if it had too many stitches to stay flat. Did this happen to you? Am I using the wrong yarn?

It could just be a tension issue. Sounds like the puffs might be too tight. You can try going up a hook size for the puffs and see if that helps. Blocking it may also help.

So cute, but how on earth do you get them to lay flat? Are you making the single crochets super loose and everything else super tight? The scs are naturally smaller than the dcs so i do not understand how you get them to lie flat. Maybe if the first round was dcs, but is not. Also, do you do loose loops for your puff stitches?

Hi Grace, it sounds like a tension issue. You can try going up a hook size for the sc sts and then using the 5mm hook for the rest of the pattern. When working a puff stitch, I make sure the loops are loose but even. I hope that helps!

I love these and tried to make them, three times. Yours are perfect. Mine have big holes where I make the puffs and they don’t look very nice. They are also do not lie flat. Maybe it is my tension because I’m not used to crocheting in cotton. Im going to keep trying because i love these.

I can’t seem to get my head around round 1. How do I make 12 sc into the magic circle? Or do I make 6 Sts in the magic circle and make an Inc in the 6 St’s of the mc???

Could you go into more detail on how exactly to work 12 sc into the 6 sts of the magic circle? I’m a knitter teaching myself to crochet and I just can’t grasp it. Thanks in advance!

Hi Christa, you are going to be working 12 sc directly into the magic circle. There aren’t any stitches prior to that (the 6 that you mentioned) There is a tutorial linked in the pattern that shows you how to make the magic circle and how to work into it. I hope it helps.

Apparently I have a seriously tight tension issue. haha. no wonder my neck gets tired. ; ) Thank you for the suggestion. I need to loosen things up a bit.

For the face scrubby you say “magic circle”. How big is that? I did six stitches but then can’t get the twelve stitches in. Confused

The magic circle is a great technique that is basically an alternate way of creating a circle. Normally you would chain and sl st to create a circle but with the magic circle, it allows you to have virtually no hole in the center. You can find a great tutorial here.

I wanted to use this as a scrubbie for my dishes. I made two matching pads and used a SC to connect them together around the edges. LOVE it! Thanks for the pattern. It’s super cute and a nice distraction in the evenings after work.

That sounds awesome! I am glad my scrubbies were used for a different purpose other than being used as a face scrubby! I love the creativity 🙂 I’m so happy you enjoyed the pattern!

Hiya, I was thinking about using king cole bamboo cotton which is 50% bamboo and 50% cotton, do you think this would still be ok for facial use?

I’m confused maybe? I did 12 sc into my magic circle, that’s all good. But the 2nd row is chain 3 (first dc) then 1 dc in next, then 2 dc in next* around. No matter how I do the math I only come up with 19 stitches? What am I missing?

Hi Cindy! The ch-3 counts as 1 dc and the 1 dc that you are working next is going to be worked into the first st as the ch-3. Then you will proceed with 2 dc into each remaining st around. I hope that makes sense!

I had trouble getting this to lay flat, especially when i pulled the center circle closed. Stretched it a little, left the whole open in the center, and it is mostly flat. hmmm…..

Hi Shannon! It sound like it could be one of two things. Either your tension is a little too tight or you missed a stitch somewhere so the stitches didn’t increase like they were supposed to and it started curling up.

So in round 4 it says to SC in each puff stitch and ch-1 space however in round 3 there’s no instructions to ch-1 between each puff stitch.

Hi Amy, many thanks! I am making the spa day basket for my nephew’s fiancee’s bridal shower. Really enjoying making it. I apologize for my late reply to your kind answer to my question. Best, Maggie

Love this pattern…the one picture looks like this scrubby is 3 layers together, if so what would be the best way to attach them together…thanks

Hi Barbara, I just stacked them together. They are not attached. If you wanted to attach them, then I would say for the last scrubbie, leave a long tail instead of finishing it off and using a yarn needle, sew the scrubbies together using a whip stitch.

Love these spa patterns! Quick question. How on earth do you get your magic circle to cinch up so tightly!? I swear no matter how many times I work with this cotton, I can never get the damn thing to close up half as well as yours seem in the photos lol

Hi Molly! It took me a lot of practice. I pull and adjust the stitches around the circle. It also cinches up really well once you weave the tail into the center. I hope that helps! 🙂

I’ve made 6 of these so far and I love them. I do have a simple question though.. How big is the circumference suppose to be for these. They seem larger than your average face scrubbie. I love them, just want to make sure I’m making them proper.

Really Cute! Thank you for sharing your pattern. I do have one question. How do I stop the round from curling?

Thank you!
