Welcome to Part 7 of the Wonder Crochet Blanket CAL!

Wonder Crochet Blanket CAL Part 7

Materials:

  • Category 4 worsted weight yarn in 2 colors:
    • Color A: I used Lion Brand Heartland in Katmai*
    • Color B: I used Lion Brand Heartland in Glacier Bay*
  • Size I 5.5mm Crochet Hook*
  • Scissors*
  • Yarn Needle* for weaving ends

Skill Level:

Easy

Abbreviations:

ch(s) – chain(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)
sk – skip
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
TrX – Treble X stitch
dc3tog – double crochet three stitches together
t-ch – turning chain
sp(s) – space(s)
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
() – indicates stitch counts at the end of the row
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

Approximately 4 sts = 1″

Finished Size:

Approximately 3.5″ in height

Special Stitches:

Treble X Stitch (TrX) (see tutorial below):

  • Yarn over twice, insert hook into designated st
  • Yarn over, pull up a loop
  • Yarn over, pull through 2 loops
  • Sk next st, yarn over, insert hook into next st
  • Yarn over, pull up a loop
  • Yarn over, pull through 2 loops, 4 times
  • Ch 1, yarn over, insert the hook into the middle of the stitch just worked
  • Yarn over, pull up a loop
  • Yarn over, pull through 2 loops
  • Yarn over, pull through remaining 2 loops.

double crochet 3 stitches together (dc3tog):

  • Yarn over, insert hook into the indicated st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)
  • Yarn over, insert hook into the same st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook)
  • Yarn over, insert hook into the same st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook)
  • Yarn over, pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms
  • All stitches are worked through both loops unless otherwise noted.
  • All color changes are made in the last yarn over of the last stitch of the row.

Instructions:

Starting with Color A (or continuing in same color from last section)
Row 1: Ch 4 (count as 1 tr), sk first st, 1 tr into the next st, *TrX over next 3 sts** Repeat from * to ** across until 1 st remains, 1 tr into the last st, changing to Color B in last yarn over, turn. (3 tr and 54 TrX)
Row 2: Ch 4 (count as 1 dc and ch 1), dc3tog in the next ch-1 sp, *ch 2, dc3tog in the next ch-1 sp** Repeat from * to ** across until there are 2 sts remaining (the 1 tr and t-ch), ch 1, 1 dc into the next st, 1 dc into the t-ch, turn. (54 dc3tog, 3 dc)
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 sc into the next st, 1 sc into the next ch-sp, * 1 sc into the next dc3tog, 2 sc into the next ch-2 sp** Repeat from * to ** across, working the last 2 sc into the 4th and 3rd ch of the ch-4, changing to Color A in last yarn over, turn. (165)
Row 4: Repeat Row 1
Row 5: Repeat Row 2
Row 6: Repeat Row 3, fasten off, weave ends.

      Hi Regi! This is a section of a blanket Crochet Along that I worked on last year. If you wanted to make a blanket or afghan using just this stitch, you would start with 166 chains.
