Crochet Granny Stars www.thestitchinmommy.com

With the 4th of July coming up, I thought that I would make a patriotic pattern! When I hear the word patriotic, I think about red, white, and blue, and stars. So, I came up with this cute, quick, and easy Granny Star pattern. It’s great for a bunting or banner or even just as a decoration at your Independence Day party. The star takes about 5-10 minutes to work up (depending how fast you crochet) Tomorrow, I will share how to turn them into granny squares. 🙂  Enjoy and Happy Crocheting!

Hi! I have made several of the stars–great pattern to follow! Your stars look so flat. I am only able to achieve that if I leave the hole in the middle. Mine are curling on the points. Any thoughts? thanks again!

Hi Kris! It might be a tension issue. It could be that the chains are too tight as opposed to the rest of the stitches. You could try blocking it also to get it to lay flat. Hope that helps!

Love the stars. Mine work up a little larger. I made with a size F hook and they were still a little larger, is okay just don’t know why and I would like a few 2″ from star tip to star tip.

Hi Sandra! What kind of yarn are you using? Red Heart Shimmer is a thinner yarn so maybe that’s why. When I use a cotton yarn, it comes out a lot larger.

I love these stars! I was wondering about the instructions for the magic circle or is it a plastic ring?

Hi Vickie! It’s different way of starting a round instead of chaining and sl stitching into a circle. Here’s a good photo tutorial: http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2013/09/demystifying-the-magic-ring/

The red star looks bigger–is it just the picture making it look like that? 🙂

The red star was actually made with a different sized hook and different yarn. I threw it into the picture to give it a little pop of red 🙂

What a nice, uniform star! Mine tend to be a bit wobbly. With worsted weight yarn, how big are they? Perhaps you could include a photo with a quarter, or a ruler, so we can see the scale.
    Thanks for the pattern!
