I love fall! I love the cooler weather (not cold, but cooler) and I love wearing my cowls and earwarmers! Materials:

Abbreviations:

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
FPdc – front post double crochet
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)
t-ch – turning chain
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

18 stitches & 8.4 rows = 4″ (in pattern stitch)

Finished Sizes:

  • Teen – Fits 20″ Head size
  • Adult Small – Fits 21″ Head size
  • Adult Medium – Fits 22″ Head size
  • Adult Large – Fits 23″ Head size

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
  • This project is worked flat and then seamed at the ends to create a headband.

Ch a multiple of 3

Instructions:

Teen:

Ch 21
Row 1: 1 dc into the 4th ch from hook, 1 dc into each remaining st across, turn. (18 sts)
Row 2: Ch 3 (count as 1 dc here and throughout), sk the first st, 1 dc into the next st, 1 FPdc around the post of the next st, *1 dc into each of the next 2 sts, 1 FPdc around the post of the next st; Repeat from * across, 1 dc into the t-ch, turn. (18 sts)
Row 3: Ch 3 (count as 1 dc here and throughout), sk the first st, 1 dc into the next st, 1 FPdc around the post of each of the next 2 sts, *1 dc into the next st, 1 FPdc around the post of each of the next 2 sts; Repeat from * across, work your last FPdc around the ch-3, turn. (18 sts)
Row 4-41: Repeat Rows 2-3
Row 42: Repeat Row 2, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.


Adult Small:

Ch 21

Row 4-47: Repeat Rows 2-3
Row 48: Repeat Row 2.
Row 49: Repeat Row 3, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.


Finish:

  • Bring both ends of the headband together so that beginning of the rows meets the ends of row the rows.
  • Give each end a small twist.
  • Using the yarn tail and yarn needle, whip stitch the ends together.
  • Pinch the middle and sew through the middle to cinch it together.
  • Fasten off, weave all ends.
