Mini Marshmallow Ornament Free Crochet Pattern

I can’t believe it’s already time for the 2021 Holiday Stashdown CAL! The Holiday Stashdown CAL is one of my favorite CALs to participate in every year. Mini Marshmallow Ornament

Materials:

Abbreviations:

BL – back loop
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

14 stitches & 18 rows = 4″ (in sc)

Finished Size:

Approximately 2″ tall

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
  • This pattern is worked in a continuous round and is only joined when instructed. A stitch marker comes in handy to help you mark the first stitch of each round but is not required.

Instructions: 

Magic Circle, ch 1.
Round 1:
Work 6 sc into the magic circle. (6 sts)
Round 2:
Work 2 sc into each st around. (12 sts)
Round 3: *1 sc into the next st, 2 sc into the next st; Repeat from * around. (18 sts)
Round 4: 1 sc into the BL of each st around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (18 sts)
Round 5-8: 1 sc into each st around.(18 sts)
Round 9: 1 sc into each st around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st, fasten off. (18 sts)

Marshmallow Top:

Magic Circle, ch 1.
Round 1:
Work 6 sc into the magic circle. (6 sts)
Round 2:
Work 2 sc into each st around. (12 sts)
Round 3: *1 sc into the next st, 2 sc into the next st; Repeat from * around, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. (18 sts)

Finish:

  • Using the yarn tail from the marshmallow top and a yarn needle, begin sewing the top to the body of the marshmallow. Sew through the back loops of the top and the body. Do not sew completely shut.
  • Begin stuffing the marshmallow with fiber fill until mostly full.
  • Position and secure the safety eyes.
  • Continue stuffing with fiber fill until the marshmallow is full.
  • Finish sewing the marshmallow top on.
  • Using embroidery floss and embroidery needle, embroider the mouth onto the marshmallow.
  • Add blush using a marker or a touch of pink eyeshadow on a cotton swab (optional.)
  • Weave in all remaining ends.
  • To attach ribbon to the top of the marshmallow: fold the ribbon in half, insert hook into the center of the top part of the marshmallow, pull the ribbon through the middle, pull the ends through and make a knot.
