A Star in the Sky Afghan Square – A Photo Tutorial
Yesterday I posted my square for the Mystery Lapghan CAL. Today, I am sharing a full photo tutorial so that you can successfully make my gorgeous A Star in the Sky Afghan Square! Happy Crocheting!

A Star in the Sky 6″ Afghan Square

Materials:
- Approximately 35 yds of Worsted weight cotton yarn in three colors:
- Color A – I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream* in White.
- Color B – I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream* in Light Blue.
- Color C – I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream* in Blueberry.
- Size I 5.5mm Crochet Hook*
- Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
- Scissors*

ch – chain
ch-sp – chain space
dc – double crochet
FPdc – front post double crochet
FPsc – front post single crochet
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch count
* – indicates repeat
[] – indicates instructions to be worked into a single st or ch-sp
Gauge:
3.5 stitches and 2.7 rows = 1 inch
Finished Size:
6″ x 6″

- This pattern is written in US terms.
- Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet.
- This pattern is written for a 6″ x 6″ afghan square.
- Ch-spaces are included in the stitch count of this pattern.

With color A, Magic Circle, ch 3
Round 1:Work 11 dc into magic circle
Round 1 cont’d: Join in beginning dc with a sl st. Fasten off.
Join Color B with a sl st in the same st as join
Round 2 cont’d: FPdc around the post of the next st
Round 2 cont’d: *dc into the top of the next st, FPdc around the post of the same st** Repeat from * to ** around
Round 2 cont’d: Work last FPdc around the ch-3
Round 2 cont’d: Join in top of ch-3 with a sl st. Fasten off.
Join Color C with a sl st in the same st as join.
Round 3: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 sc into each of the next 5 sts
Round 3 cont’d: *1 sc into each of the next 6 sts, ch 3** Repeat from * to ** around
Round 3 cont’d: Join into beginning sc with a sl st
Round 4: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st
Round 4 cont’d: 1 sc into each of the next 5 sts
Round 4 cont’d: *[1 sc into ch-3 sp
Round 4 cont’d: 2 FPdc around the post of the dc from Round 2
Round 4 cont’d: 1 sc] into the ch-3 sp
Round 4 cont’d: sc into each of the next 6 sts** Repeat from * to ** around to the last ch-3 sp
Round 4 cont’d: [1 sc, 2 FPdc around the post of the dc from Round 2, 1 sc] into the last ch-3 sp, join into beginning sc with a sl st. Fasten off.
Join Color A with a sl st in the same st as join.
Round 5: Ch 3 (count as dc)
Round 5 cont’d: 1 dc into each of the next 7 sts
Round 5 cont’d: *[1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc] into the next st
Round 5 cont’d: 1 dc into each of the next 9 sts** Repeat from * to ** around until there are 2 sts left
Round 5 cont’d: [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc] into the next st
Round 5 cont’d: 1 dc into the last st
Round 5 cont’d: Join in top of ch-3 with a sl st. Fasten off.
Join Color B with a sl st in one of the ch-1 spaces of Round 5.
Round 6: Ch 1, *[2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc] into the ch-sp
Round 6 cont’d: 1 sc into each of the next 11 sts** Repeat from * to ** around
Round 6 cont’d: Join in beginning sc with a sl st. Fasten off.
Join Color C with a sl st in one of the ch-2 spaces of Round 6.
Round 7: Ch 1, *[1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc] in the ch-2 sp
Round 7 cont’d: 1 sc into each of the next 6 sts
Round 7 cont’d: 1 FPdc around the post of each of the next 3 dc from Round 5
Round 7: 1 sc into each of the next 6 sts** Repeat from * to ** around
Round 7: Join in beginning sc with a sl st. Fasten off.
Join Color A with a sl st in one of the ch-2 spaces of Round 7.
Round 8: Ch 1, *[1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc] in the ch-2 sp
Round 8 cont’d: 1 sc into each of the next 7 sts
Round 8 cont’d: 1 FPsc around the post of each of the next 3 sts
Round 8 cont’d: 1 sc into each of the next 7 sts** Repeat from * to ** around
Round 8 cont’d: Join in beginning sc with an invisible join. Weave all ends and wet block if necessary.
This will give you a 6″ x 6″ square.
