Oatmeal Cookie Headband Earwarmer

Materials:

Abbreviations:

BL – back loop
ch(s) 
– chain(s)
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

10 stitches & 8 rows = 4″ (in pattern stitch)

Finished Size:

  • Adult Small – Fits 21″ Head size
  • Adult Medium – Fits 22″ Head size
  • Adult Large – Fits 23″ Head size

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.

Instructions:

Adult Small

Ribbing:

Leaving a long tail, Ch 5
Row 1: Ch 1, 1 sc into the 2nd ch from hook and into each st across, turn. (4 sts)
Row 2-51: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 sc into the BL of each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc into the last st, turn. (4 sts)

Turn your work so that you will be working into the sides of the rows. Evenly sc 51 sts across, join in beginning sc with a sl st. You will now be working in the round.

Headband:

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st around, join in beginning hdc with a sl st. (51 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc into the third loop of each hdc around, join into the top of the beginning hdc with a sl st. (51 sts)
Round 3-5: Repeat Round 2
Round 6: Ch 1, 1 sc into the third loop of each hdc around, join in beginning sc with a sl st, fasten off. (51 sts)

Finish:

  • Using the long tail from the Ribbing section and a yarn needle, whip stitch the ribbing closed.
  • Attach bow. (see instructions below)
  • Weave all ends

Adult Medium

Ribbing:

Leaving a long tail, Ch 5
Row 1: Ch 1, 1 sc into the 2nd ch from hook and into each st across, turn. (4 sts)
Row 2-53: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 sc into the BL of each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc into the last st, turn. (4 sts)

Turn your work so that you will be working into the sides of the rows. Evenly sc 53 sts across, join in beginning sc with a sl st. You will now be working in the round.

Headband:

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st around, join in beginning hdc with a sl st. (53 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc into the third loop of each hdc around, join into the top of the beginning hdc with a sl st. (53 sts)
Round 3-5: Repeat Round 2
Round 6: Ch 1, 1 sc into the third loop of each hdc around, join in beginning sc with a sl st, fasten off. (53 sts)

Adult Large

Headband:

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st around, join in beginning hdc with a sl st. (56 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc into the third loop of each hdc around, join into the top of the beginning hdc with a sl st. (56 sts)
Round 3-5: Repeat Round 2
Round 6: Ch 1, 1 sc into the third loop of each hdc around, join in beginning sc with a sl st, fasten off. (56 sts)

Finish:

  • Using the long tail from the Ribbing section and a yarn needle, whip stitch the ribbing closed.
  • Attach bow. (see instructions below)
  • Weave all ends.

Bow (optional):

Ch 26,
Row 1: 
1 hdc into the 2nd ch from hook and into each st across, turn. (25 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, turn. (25 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, fasten off, leave a 24 inch long tail for sewing. (25 sts)

Finish:

  • Bring the ends of bow together so that the beginning of the rows meet the end of the rows. Using the yarn tail and yarn needle, whip stitch the ends together.
  • Pinch the center of the bow and wrap the yarn tail around 5-6 times to cinch the center.
  • Using the remainder of the yarn tail, sew onto the headband.
