Seed Stitch Tutorial and Dishcloth Pattern
Happy Thursday! Welcome to this week’sย Letโs Learn a New Crochet Stitch – Kitchen Crochet Editionย event. This week I am going to show you the Seedย Stitchย in this photo tutorial, plus give you instructions for aย dishclothย in sizes 6″ x 6″, 9″ x 9″ and 12″ x 12″. Materials:
- Approximately 36 yds of Category 4 Medium Weight Cotton Yarn; I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream* in the Jute colorway
- Size Iย Crochet Hook*
- Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
- Scissors*

ch โ chain
st(s) โ stitch(es)
scย โ singleย crochet
dcย โย double crochet
() – indicates stitch counts
Multiple:
2+1
Gauge:
3.2ย stitches & 2.5ย rows = 1″
Finished Sizes:
6″ x 6″
9″ x 9″
12″ x 12″
Notes:
- This pattern is written in US terms
- Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
- This pattern is written for a 6″ x 6″ dishcloth with stitch counts for 9″ x 9″ and 12″ x 12″ written in parenthesis. The 9″ dishcloth stitch counts will be written inย italics and the 12″ dishcloth stitch counts will be written in bold.

Row 1:ย sc in the 2ndย ch from hook

Row 1 cont’d:ย dc in the next st

Row 1 cont’d:ย *sc in the next st, dc in the next st** Repeat from * to ** across, turn.

Row 2ย cont’d:ย sc in theย first st
Row 2 cont’d: dc in the next st

Row 2 cont’d: *sc in the next st, dc in the next st** Repeat from * to ** across, turn.
This will give you approximately an 6″ x 6″ square. You can add a simple sc border around the squareย to finish it off.
Written Instructions:
Ch 19ย (29,ย 39)
Row 1:ย Work 1ย sc in the 2ndย ch from hook, 1 dc in the next st, *1 sc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st** Repeat from * to ** across, turn. (18, 28, 38)
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 dc in the next st, *1 sc into the next st, 1 dc into the next st** Repeat from * to **ย across,ย turn. (18, 28, 38)
Row 3-15: Repeat Row 2 (for 6″ dishcloth)
Row 3-23: Repeat Row 2 (9″ dishcloth)
Row 3-30: Repeat Row 2 (12″ dishcloth)
Fasten off, weave all ends.
Finish:
You can add a simple border by joining your yarn with a sl st in one of the stitches, sc evenly around placing 3 sc sts in each corner, join in beginning sc with an invisible join. Fasten off, weave ends.
