Jeweled Lattice Afghan - Free Pattern www.thestitchinmommy.com #crochet #afghan #freepattern

It’s baby time again! I always say that I am surrounded by people having babies and well…I am! My cousin just had her baby boy named Ethan and now one of my dear friends is awaiting the arrival of her baby girl. I have been working on this afghan for what seems like ages and I am so excited to finally share it with you. It’s a great blanket that takes some time to work up but well worth it. It looks very intricate but involves fairly easy stitches. I hope that you enjoy the pattern for my new Jeweled Lattice Afghan (named by a wonderful woman named Yvonne from one of my crochet groups!) Happy Crocheting!

    Hi Amy,

Shouldn’t the directions read for Rows 2-6 *(Row 2-6: *[2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] into the ch-2 sp from previous row – instead of ch-1?

Btw, love this pattern – I’m working on increasing the length and decreasing the width to make a prayer shawl.

Beautiful! But, I would not make it for a baby – Anything that has little holes in it can trap tiny little fingers and cut off circulation. I am a Pediatric Nurse, and this happens OFTEN. In Michigan a few years ago, a 4 month old baby lost two fingers when they got caught in a handmade blanket, and circulation was cut off overnight. Tightly woven, crocheted, or knitted is safe for baby.
When it comes to babies and children, think SAFE and useful, not CUTE or pretty!
Thanks for sharing this lovely pattern.
    ALSO-
I print off all the great patterns from the Internet, and I tuck the one I am using in my crochet bag, as I do MOST of my crocheting “On the Go”.

Hi Susan! Thank you for addressing that concern. These blankets do need to be used with care and discretion. I’ve used an open weave blanket for my daughter in the summertime because it allows her to get some airflow and still be warm. I would never wrap a baby in a blanket overnight. We always gave her footed pajamas and never covered her in a blanket unless it was a swaddle blanket. I made this afghan for a friend more for a quick ride in a car seat or stroller and not for overnight use. I hope that others will consider this when making this project.

      Thanks,
      Amy

Is there a pdf of this pattern. So cute but I’m often not with internet connection when crocheting/knitting.

Thanks Michelle! What you can do is click on the little green circle with the printer icon on the top or bottom of the post. It will give you a PDF option! 🙂
