Textured Beanie - Sizes Preemie to 6-12 Months www.thestitchinmommy.com

I recently had the opportunity to participate in the 2014 NICU Challenge over at Sunset Crochet and I created this adorable Textured Preemie Beanie especially for the challenge! Since then, I’ve decided to add a few sizes since I think it would be a cute hat for any baby. Just a note, I make most of my hats in cotton yarn so the texture shows up a little better than if you were to use acrylic or wool. Happy crocheting!

  • 3-6 Months – 14‐16″
  • 6‐12 Months – 17‐18″

Gauge:

6 stitches=1” 2 rows=1”

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
  • This hat is worked in a continuous round. Do not join unless otherwise noted in the pattern. This is where the use of a stitch marker will come in handy. Place the stitch marker on the end of each round to mark your last stitch.
  • For the textured look, work the hat on the wrong side after Round 1. Alternately, you can work the hat on the right side and just turn it over before you start the post stitches.
  • All stitches are worked through both stitches unless otherwise noted.
  • Sizing will differ based on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Please check your gauge before beginning this pattern.

Beautiful hat! Thank you so much for the pattern! I was just wondering what you meant when you said to work the wrong side after round 1? As its worked in rounds how would I do this without joining and chaining up to the second round in order to work from the wrong side. So sorry I’m just a bit confused lol thank you for your time : )

Hi Kim! I normally just work it from the inside but you can work it on the right side and just turn it over when you are done. That might be a bit easier 🙂

This is such a pretty pattern! I wish I’d found it sooner, as my daughter in law and grand baby just visited Tennessee, and I made her just a plain hat with ear flaps. Oh well, she can have another one, can’t she?

This pattern is ADORABLE! I’m grateful for the premie size. I like to find patterns like this to donate to “forever babies”. Most tiny patterns are so dull. I can hardly wait to try it.

I think there’s an error in your 6-12 month pattern. In row 16 it says repeat row 13, but that’s a hdc/sl st row. I think u mean repeat row 14 -Dc Around ?

It should actually say repeat round 15. The pattern has been corrected.

Hi Jeanene, what type of yarn are you using? With acrylic yarn, the texture doesn’t show up as well as with cotton yarn.

Okay, I bought some cotton yarn and I still only have the “good part” on the inside! Could you perhaps drive to my house and give me a personal lesson?! I live in Michigan. No? Well then talk me thru this, When you get to row seven, will the slant stitch be on top of the slant stitch in row six? Or will it be over the hdc on row six? My wrong side looks so nice. I’m a failure. 🙂

Oh no!! Ok let me try to talk you through it. So you are working in a continuous round right? No joining and chaining. The slip stitch will always be in the top of a hdc and the hdc will always be on top of the sl st. That way, it staggers the stitches and creates the texture. I hope that helps a bit!

Ok this maybe an implied thing but I want to be sure….. should there be a chain one at the beginning of each round? I knda get lost….. Help 😀

Hi Latonya! This hat is worked in a continuous round so there are no joins or chains. Hope that helps! 🙂

Hi Ericka! If you don’t want to add the ribbon section, you can actually do 4 rounds of hdc and finish off with a round of sc.That should give it the proper length 🙂

In the 3-6 month pattern, the directions tell you to repeat rows 5 and 6. 5 is an increase row. Should it be 6 and 7?
In that case, there is no texture, as you have the hdc and slip stitch above and below each other. I love the pattern, but cannot get it to work.

My step daughter and I have both tried working this pattern today. When you get to where you say alternate row 5 and 6, it does not work out to the correct qty of stitches. 0-3 months says 40 stitches but there are at least 48.
