How is the ribbing, 73 rows, the same length for the 6-10 yr and the teen??? Wouldn’t this be way to big for the 6-10 yr old?
It’s a difference of 1″ and because of the stitch pattern, it ends up having to work out this way. The ribbing is made to stretch. If you need a different size, check the inch size instead of looking at the suggested age size and use that pattern instead.
Hello might be a silly question, but are we slip stitching into the top of the ch3? Or the first stitch? I’m working on th 3-6mth.
Hi Jessica! I’m not sure I understand. Are you working on the ribbing? You will slip stitch into the beginning sc st.
Do you happen to have any advice for sizing this up to an adult size? Desperately trying to make it for myself but not sure how big to make the brim based on how many stitches would be needed for each shell. Help! 🙂
Hi Megan! I have updated the post to include all of the sizes up to adult large 🙂
HI,
I’m working on this pattern ,3-5 years , at this moment. Is there a typo on the Ribbing Row2? It reads “ 1 sc into the BL of the next 4 sts, 1 sc into last st, turn” but I think is 1sc into the BL of the next 6 sts. please advise?
Hi Gina! Yes it’s a typo. It should be 6 sts. I updated the PDF pattern but forgot to update the blog post.
Thx for the pattern, I’ve made 2 so far for nieces and nephews. I would love to make this for my older nieces. Do you have a pattern for 6-8 year olds? Also a little confused on the instructions for 6-12 months… with color A, in row 1 it says total 7 stitches. Row 2 says ch 1, 1 sc in 1st stitch, 1 sc into BL in each of the next 4 stitches and 1 sc into last stitch (7stitches) … but isn’t that only 6 stitches?
Hi Terri! I am working on some larger sizes for this hat that I will publish this week. The 6-12 month pattern did have a typo that I have updated 🙂
Is there an adult pattern for this? I’m not sure how well I’d do trying to increase it on my own.
Hi Bonnie! I am working on the adult sized patterns. I will try to post them by the end of the week.
Thank you!
Hi! I loved this pattern so much, so I posted it to my website: http://www.hooksandthread.com/blog/2017/11/26/finished-object-little-santa-sack-hat-but-not-really-santa
I would love to make this adorable hat for family Christmas photo. Any chance you have pattern for adult sizing?
Hi Jenny! I don’t currently have this pattern in adult size but it something I can work on since there seems to be a lot of interest 🙂 I will let you know when I have worked it up.
Help!!
I’m making the 6-12 months hat and it says to make 55 rows.
It’s super long!!
When I turn it to single crochet down the side I have a ton of single crochets.
What am I doing wrong?
Please help lol
Hi Angel! The 55 rows is for the ribbing at the bottom of the hat. You will crochet the 55 rows then turn the work so that you are working 55 sc into the sides of the 55 rows you did. This is the length of the hat. At the end, you will be folding the rectangle in half and stitching it up to create the hat.
I probably should also ask, how long does your project measure so far? The ribbed portion should measure approximately 15″
Everyone I make the 3-5 year old hat. I always end up with 11 shells. I have the same yarn and size needle for the yarn. What am I doing wrong here?
Hi Niki! It was a typo and should be 11. Sorry about that!
Awesome thank you! I thought I was going bananas!
I really do love this hat. My niece loved it as well.
Thank you so much!
No you’re not going bananas! It was all me. It was a typo error on my part. I am so glad that your niece loved the hat! 🙂
I love your Dusty Rose and your Santa’s little Sack Hat. I’m trying to figure out how to increase them both to make them for me. Almost done, lol can’t wait to show you my finished work..will wait until they are both done.
Lol! Paula I could’ve sized them for you 😉 Let me know how it turns out!!
I love this, I want to make one for myself, could you help me out with sizing? I’m not very good at altering patterns. Thanks!
Hi Alicia! I have added additional sizes up to Adult Large.
This pattern is so adorable, unique and festive. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Emily!
This is adorable! I want to make one for each of our 12 great grands, and their parents for Christmas photos. And, I love your label – may I ask where you found them?
Thank you Becky! The labels are actually custom buttons that I purchased on Etsy!
