Welcome to the Crochet With Us Fall Poncho CAL Part 2!

cwufallponchocalpt2

If you missed Part 1 of the CAL, you can find over at Oombawka Design! If you haven’t started the CAL yet or don’t know anything about it, you can find a lot of helpful information in the Introduction Post. In the Introduction post, you will find information about the yarn options, hook sizes, finished project sizes, and updated links to all parts of the CAL. After each part is published online the link will be added to the Introduction Post, on a post by post basis.

Here’s how to participate in this CAL:

  • Add this CAL to your Ravelry Queue
  • Join the Crochet With Us! Ravelry group to get help with this CAL
  • Join the Crochet With Us Group on Facebook for assistance with the CAL – it is a lovely group filled with helpful and caring Crocheters who are happy to help each other.
  • Share your progress on Instagram using #CWUPonchoCAL2015

As you may already know, Rhondda started the CAL off with her first post using worsted weight yarn. For this CAL, I am using DK yarn in the form of Knit Picks Gloss DK* and a Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook*. If you have chosen to make the Poncho using Worsted Weight yarn please see Option 1 below. The totals indicated at the end of each row are the number of stitches for the row in this format (Option 1 Stitch Count, Option 2 Stitch Count). If you are using DK weight yarn, you will be following along with me and the Option 2 Stitch Counts.

Option 1: Worsted Weight (Red Heart Soft) – 6.0 mm (J). Instructions are for Child Size 6.
Option 2: DK Weight (Knit Picks Gloss) – 5.0 mm (H). Instructions are for Child Size 4.

Yarn Colors Used for Parts 1 & 2:

Row 1-5: Seaspray
Row 6-9: Cream

Abbreviations:

beg – beginning
ch – chain
RS – right side
dc – double crochet
FPdc – front post double crochet
BPdc – back post double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
t-ch – turning chain
* – Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.
() – Repeat the instructions between the parentheses the number of times indicated.
(Option 1 Stitch Count, Option 2 Stitch Count) – end of row stitch counts

Tutorials:

Woven Stitch – this is a full photo tutorial for the woven stitch that will be used in this week’s part of the crochet-along.

Notes:

  • Colors are changed in the last yarn over.
  • The stitch totals indicated at the end of each row do not include the chain stitches unless otherwise noted.

Instructions:

Row 6: (count ch-3 as first dc) 1 dc in each st across, ch 3, turn. (34, 44)
Row 7: *FPdc in the next st, BPdc in next st** Repeat from * to ** across, dc into the top of the t-ch, ch 3, turn. (34, 44)

    Hi,
I’ve been searching the web for homemade Christmas gifts. I love the poncho and have decided to make two for my granddaughters. I’ve read the introduction section as well as the various parts. I need measurement info for Child size 10 and Youth size 12 and any other measurement info you can provide. For instance, what’s the length for each completed section for these sizes. I have the overall width and length of the rectangle as well starting chain stitches. I plan to use WW yarn. Will it make a difference if I use 6.5 mm hook rather than a 6.0mm one? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Hi Christine! You can find all of the available sizes and the worsted weight instructions here: http://oombawkadesigncrochet.com/2015/07/crochet-with-us-fall-poncho-cal-introduction-post.html If you use a 6.5mm hook, you will have to recalculate the starting chain and amount of rows as your gauge will change. Hope that helps!
