My First Hat

Materials:

  • Red Heart Cutie Pie Yarn (light worsted-3)
    • Color A: Tulip about 55 yards
    • Color B: Koala about 15 yards
  • D-3 (3.25mm) crochet hook
  • Fabric scissors
  • Yarn needle, to weave ends

Abbreviations:

CA-Color A
CB-Color B
St(s)-Stitch(es)
Ch-Chain
Sc-Single Crochet
Dc-Double Crochet
Fpdc-Front Post Double Crochet
Bpdc-Back Post Double Crochet

Gauge

4 dc sts x 2 rows is 1″

Finished Size:

12” circumference
5 ½” from top of hat to bottom

Instructions:

Hat

Starting with CA, Ch 3,
Round 1: 9 dc in 3rd ch from hook, join in first dc of row (10 sts)
Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, join in first dc of row (19 sts)
Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st* repeat * to * around, join in first dc of row (28 sts)
Round 4: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st* repeat * to * around, join in first dc of row (37 sts)
Round 5: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 3 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st* repeat * to * around, join in first dc of row (46 sts)
Round 6: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 4 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st* repeat * to * around, join in first dc of row (55 sts)
Rounds 7-13: ch 2, dc in each st around, join in first st of row (55 sts)
Round 14: ch 2, fpdc in first st, bpdc in next st, *fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st* repeat * to * around, join in first st of row, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends (55 sts)

Weaved Chain

Using CB, ch 65 or as many as need, weave the chain every 4 dc in round 12, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends

Bow

Using CB, Ch 6,
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st, turn
Rows 2-3: ch 1, sc in each st, turn
Row 4: ch 1, sc in each st around, 3 sc in each corner st, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends

Wrap yarn around the middle of the bow tightly and tie both ends together. Attach the bow to the hat over the weaved chain with CB and a yarn needle.
