Crochet Kaleidoscope

Crochet Kaleidoscope contains 100 gorgeous, colorful motifs that you can turn into amazing projects!

This book starts off with some amazing tips for choosing colors for your projects. Sandra Eng mentions that there is no right or wrong colors because everyone has their own favorite color or set of colors. She also goes on to discuss color theory, color picking tools, pairing colors, how many colors to choose, and how to choose a color order.

We then move on to the motif patterns. Each of the patterns in this book contains a finished size (in both inches and centimeters for US and international readers), yarn colors, crochet hook used, gauge information and pattern notes. The patterns are clear and easy to read. Each pattern comes with a chart to help you visualize the stitches and color changes. There are 100 unique motifs that are sectioned into four categories: Circles, Squares, Hexagons, and Triangles and Other Shapes.

After the motif patterns, Sandra provides instructions for creating five gorgeous projects using several of the motif patterns. These projects can easily be customized using your favorite motifs and color schemes.

Here are the projects you will find in Crochet Kaleidoscope:

At the end of the book, there is a stitch key that shows you the names of the stitches used in the motif pattern charts. After the stitch key, there is a glossary that gives you information on how to crochet the basic stitches and special stitches that are used in the book. There is also a walk-through on how to do an invisible join and how to decrease different stitches. At the end of the book, you can also find a handy metric conversion chart as well as a list of other abbreviations used in the book. I, personally, like the Resources page. Sandra lists online color resources and yarn resources that will come in handy for creating the projects in this book and making them your own. One of my favorite parts is the section called “Colorway Details.” There is a full list of colors used to create the motif patterns in this book and each colorway is presented as a square swatch. At the very end of the book, you will find the author’s biography and a section of acknowledgements.

All of the projects in Crochet Kaleidoscope are just absolutely stunning. The colors combinations grab your attention and the visual interest of each motif is just amazing. I love that you can take these simple motif patterns and create gorgeous projects of your own.
