- For a more professional look, leave a long tail of yarn at the end of each section to allow you to sew the sections of the hat together with the correct color.
- The brim is worked back and forth in rows before being turned lengthwise to work along the row ends for the main body of the hat
- The main body of the hat is worked flat. You will seam the hat at the very end
- If you want a less slouchy hat use a 5mm (H) for the body of the hat.
- If you want a more fitted hat with only a tiny bit of slouch, use a 4.0 mm (G).
- Regardless of which hook you choose for the body of the hat be sure to use a 3.75mm (F) hook for the brim.

Depending on how you wish to assemble your hat you may want to stop at Row 25 and then seam and weave the top closed using this method (scroll to the bottom of the post to the diagram and Finishing Instructions) or see below for the optional decrease rows to make the top of the hat more shaped/rounded before you weave the final row together to close the hat.

Row 29: Ch 1, 1 sc in the first st, *sc2tog over the next 2 sts** Repeat from * to ** across, turn. (17)
Row 30: Ch 1, 1 sc in the first st, *sc2tog over the next 2 sts** Repeat from * to ** across. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for assembly. (9)
Assembly:
Starting at the brim, join the edges together using your favorite seaming technique. I used the mattress seam technique for my hat (see other techniques listed in “Tutorials” section above). Make sure to use the yarn tails from the specific sections to seam the hat so that the colors match up.
