Learn to Crochet – Part 2

So here we go with post #2 of the Learn to Crochet series. Like I said in my previous post, I am by no means an expert at crochet. I learned to crochet on my own by using various resources (which I’ll be mentioning in this post). I am just sharing with all of you how I learned and I hope to inspire you all to learn as well.

So now that you have all of your tools you’re probably asking yourself what’s next? Next we learn the basics. I learned by watching a lot of videos on YouTube…and I mean A LOT. It also really helps if you have a friend that crochets so that you can show them your work and ask their advice. I had a few friends that I asked for advice but I mostly relied in the video tutorials to help me out. I just compared my work to the videos and pictures in books. But if you have someone to help you out don’t feel bad about asking them!

So here are a few YouTubers that I followed when learning to crochet:

  • Crochet Geek – The Art of Crochet by Teresa really helped me learn to crochet. She offers a variety of tutorials for left handed and right handed crocheters. I like to think that Theresa really was the one to teach me how to crochet.
  • The Knit Witch – this channel has more knitting videos but a few crochet videos that I found were helpful

I also browsed a couple of blogs when learning. Here are a few that are really helpful:

  • Crochet Geek – Yes Teresa has a blog too! She has great tutorials and information plus free patterns!
  • Crochet Cabana – This site has some useful information when it comes to stitches and the basics

And lastly here are some books that I think are really helpful when it comes to learning crochet jargon and understanding the different types of stitches.
