Abbreviations:

ch(s) – chain(s)
dc – double crochet
dc dec – double crochet decrease
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

14 stitches & 6 rows = 4″ (in dc)

Finished Size:

Approximately 8″ x 8″

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.

Photo Tutorial:

Ch 31

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in the 4th ch from hook (skipped ch-3 counts as first dc)

 Row 1 cont’d: work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts (you should now have 6 sts, counting the ch-3)

Row 1 cont’d: Now you are going to begin working a double crochet decrease (dc dec.) Yarn over, insert your hook into the next st, yarn over, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)

Row 1 cont’d: Yarn over, pull through 2 loops

Row 1 cont’d: Yarn over, insert hook into the next st, pull up a loop

Row 1 cont’d: Yarn over, pull through 2 loops

Row 1 cont’d: Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook. Dc dec made. Work another dc dec over the next 2 sts. This is the bottom “valley” of your ripple.

Row 1 cont’d: work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts

Row 1 cont’d: Work 2 dc into the next st

Row 1 cont’d: Work 2 dc into the next st (This is the top “peak” of your ripple)

Row 1 cont’d: Work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts

Row 1 cont’d: Work 1 dc dec over the next 2 sts, twice

Row 1 cont’d: Work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts

Row 1 cont’d: Work 2 dc into the last st, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (count as first dc)

Row 2 cont’d: 1 dc in the first st (same st as ch-3)

Row 2 cont’d: Work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts

Row 2 cont’d: Work 1 dc dec over the next 2 sts, twice.

Row 2 cont’d: Work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts

Row 2 cont’d: Work 2 dc in the next st, twice

Row 2 cont’d: Work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts

Row 2 cont’d: Work 1 dc dec over the next 2 sts, twice

Row 2 cont’d: Work 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts

Row 2 cont’d: Work 2 dc into the last st, turn.

Rows 3-11: Repeat Row 2
Row 12: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off, weave ends.

Row 1: 1 dc into the 4th ch from hook (sk ch-3 counts as first dc), 1 dc into each of the next 4 st, [dc dec] twice, 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts, *[2 dc into the next st] twice, 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts, [dc dec] twice, 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts; Repeat from * across, work 2 dc into the last st, turn. (42)
Row 2: Ch 3 (count as 1 dc), 1 dc into the first st, 1 dc into each of the next 4 st, [dc dec] twice, 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts, *[2 dc into the next st] twice, 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts, [dc dec] twice, 1 dc into each of the next 4 sts; Repeat from * across, work 2 dc into the top of the ch-3, turn. (42)
Rows 3-17: Repeat Row 2.
Row 18: Repeat Row 2, fasten off and weave ends.

Finish (optional):

  • You can add a simple border by joining your yarn with a sl st into one of the stitches, sc evenly around placing 3 sc sts in each corner, join in beginning sc with an invisible join. Fasten off, weave ends.
