Materials:
- Approximately 62 yds of Category 4 Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn in 4 colors:
- Approximately 4 yds of Color A; I used Knit Picks Dishie* in the Ash colorway
- Approximately 19 yds of Color B; I used Knit Picks Dishie* in the Creme Brulee colorway
- Approximately 16 yds of Color C; I used Knit Picks Dishie* in the Swan colorway
- Approximately 23 yds of Color D; I used Knit Picks Dishie* in the Mint colorway
- Size I 5.5mm Furls Streamline Pisces Crochet Hook*
- Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
- Scissors*

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch counts/notes
* – indicates instructions to be repeated
Gauge:
16 stitches & 15.7 rows = 4″ (in sc)
Finished Size:
Approximately 6.5″ x 5.5″
Notes:
- This pattern is written in US terms.
- Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
- Color changes are made in the last yarn over of the last stitch of the row, unless otherwise indicated.
Instructions:
With Color A,
Ch 17
Row 1: 1 sc into the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc into each remaining st across, turn. (16 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color B
Rows 3-4: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color C
Rows 5-7: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color D
Rows 8-10: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color A
Rows 11-12: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color D
Rows 13-15: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color C
Rows 16-18: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color B
Rows 19-20: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color A
Rows 21-22: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (16 sts)
Change to Color C
Finish:
- Ch 1, sc evenly down the side of the rows, turn.
- Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, fasten off.
- Join Color C into the beginning (or end) of the row. Repeat for other side.
- Fasten off, weave all ends.
- Cut 3 strands of yarn approximately 4″-5″ in length.
- Fold the yarn in half. Insert hook into any corner of the mug rug.
- Pull the middle of the yarn through.
- Pull the ends through the middle to make a knot.
- Repeat for the other 3 corners.
- Trim tassel if desired.
