My Top Fives {Children’s Books}

People are always asking me for my advice on things. I don’t know if it’s because I seem knowledgeable or if people know that I like to do my research but it makes me feel good to know that people think that my opinion is worth something. I’ve decided to start doing a series of my favorites items by categories. Whether it be things that I like for myself, Kenny, or Kaylee or even recipes and tutorials that I have found useful, I will share all of these things with you and hope that you find them useful too. These are all things that I would recommend to my friends and family and I’d like to share them here as well. This week I’m sharing the top five children’s books that Kaylee and I cannot live without. We basically read these books multiple times a week. Kaylee has tons and tons of books but there are only a few that keep her attention. Being an almost-two-year-old, not much holds her attention. So here we go:

I find it so sweet that Kaylee loves this book. My mother read it to me when I was younger and now I get to read it to my little girl. We go through the ritual of saying “nite nite” to everything after reading this book so it’s safe to say it’s usually reserved for bedtime.

This book is a big hit with Kaylee. She loves when the caterpillar eats his way through everything and she is learning how to count so it helps her understand a bit better. This book was also very popular with the children that I taught when I was a preschool teacher. Little kids love watching that caterpillar munch and munch.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Kaylee especially likes this book because of the repetition and the animals. This book has many bright colors and is great for beginner readers.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

This book is one of Kaylee’s favorites as well. She loves the little mouse and thinks he’s rather funny. We have the other books by Laura Numeroff but this one is Kaylee’s favorite by far.

Now if you haven’t read any of David Shannon’s books, you definitely should. They are a hoot. I think they are all very entertaining but Kaylee seems to like this one the best. I think she enjoys these books because David was a troublemaker and she thinks his antics are funny. It’s a cute book with some realness and humor behind it. This book also gives kids a way to correlate their feelings on getting in trouble with David’s feelings and actions. It’s also a great way to show them what happens when they do something that mommy or daddy tells them not to do.
