I have been getting a lot of requests lately for a traditional granny square tutorial. You asked and I listened! I wasn’t able to make a video but I did put together a photo tutorial for you. I hope you enjoy it!

Traditional Granny Square
Add to Ravelry Queue and Favorites
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(es)
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated
Round 2: Join a new color or the same color with a sl st into one of the ch-2 sps, ch 3 (count as 1 dc).
[Note: You can use this method for a solid color square or a multi-colored square. I like the method of fastening off because I think it’s easier to start and end in the corners. ]
To make a larger square, just continue the instructions from round 3, adding additional 3-dc clusters in between the corners as your square grows.
I hope that this tutorial has inspired you to make some granny squares! If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Happy crocheting!
