Cloud Nine Baby Blanket – Free Crochet Pattern

I am so excited to announce that I have FINALLY finished this blanket. I started this blanket almost two years ago. I kept picking it up and putting it down. I never got around to finishing it until now. I am so in love with this blanket. It is made with Lion Brand Feels Like Butta yarn which is so soft and so beautiful to work with. Materials:

  • Approximately 1082 yds of Category 4 Medium Weight Yarn in two colors:
    • Approximately 713 yds of Color A; I used Lion Brand Feels Like Butta* in the Ice colorway
    • Approximately 369 yds of Color B; I used Lion Brand Feels Like Butta* in the White colorway
  • Size H 5 mm Crochet Hook*
  • Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
  • Scissors*

Easy

Abbreviations:

ch(s) – chain(s)
ch-sp – chain space
dc CL – double crochet cluster
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
t-ch – turning chain
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

8.8 stitches & 8.4 rows = 4″ (in pattern stitch)

Finished Size:

Approximately 25″ x 30″

Special Stitches:

Double Crochet Cluster (dc-CL):

  • Yarn over, insert hook into indicated st
  • Yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)
  • Yarn over, insert hook into same st, yarn over, pull up a loop
  • Yarn over pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook)
  • Yarn over, insert hook into same st, yarn over, pull up a loop
  • Yarn over pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook)
  • Yarn over, pull through all 4 loops on hook

Multiple:

Ch a multiple of 2

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
  • Finishing instructions for all sizes are located at the end of the pattern.

Instructions:

With Color A,
Ch 112
Row 1: Work 1 dc-CL into the 4th ch from hook, sk the next st, *work 1 dc-CL into the next st, ch 1, sk the next st; Repeat from * across, work dc-CL into the last st, turn. (65 Clusters)
Row 2: Ch 3, sk the first dc-CL, *work 1 dc-CL into the next ch-sp; ch 1, sk the next st; Repeat from * across, work the last dc-CL in between the ch-3 and CL from previous row, turn. (65 Clusters)
Row 3-20: Repeat Row 2
Change to Color B
Row 21-40: Repeat Row 2
Change to Color A
Row 41-59: Repeat Row 2
Row 60: Repeat Row 2, fasten off.

Finish:

  • Join Color B into the last st of the last row.
  • Sc evenly around the entire blanket, placing sts into the clusters and ch-spaces. Place 3 sts into each corner to make a sharper point.
  • I did 2 rounds of sc around to make a nice simple border.
  • Weave in all ends.
