Nubby Scrubby Color Block Washcloth – Free Crochet Pattern

It’s time for the 2019 Washcloth CAL! The Washcloth CAL is one of my favorite CALs because I love making simple projects and I love cotton yarn! Materials:

Easy

Abbreviations:

ch – chain
eesc – extra extended single crochet
RS – right side
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
WS – wrong side
() – indicates stitch counts
[] – work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

15.6 stitches & 18 rows = 4″ (in pattern stitch)

Finished Size:

Approximately 8.5″ x 8.5″

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
  • Color changes are made in the last yarn over of the last stitch of the row.

Multiple:

Ch an even number of stitches

Special Stitches:

Extra Extended Single Crochet (eesc):

  • Insert hook into indicated stitch
  • Pull up a loop
  • [Yarn over, pull through 1 loop] twice
  • Yarn over, pull through all loops on hook

Instructions:

With Color A, Ch 34
Row 1(WS): 1 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc into each remaining st across, turn. (33 sts)
Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, *1 eesc into the next st, 1 sc into the next st; Repeat from * across, turn. (33 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (33 sts)
Row 4: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 sc into the next st, *1 eesc into the next st, 1 sc into the next st; Repeat from * across, until there is 1 st remaining, 1 sc into the last st, turn. (33 sts)
Row 5: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (33 sts)
Row 6-13: Repeat Rows 2-5

Change to Color B

Row 14-25: Repeat Rows 2-5

Change to Color C

Row 26-37: Repeat Rows 2-5
Row 38: Repeat Row 2, fasten off.

Finish:

  • I like having a more rustic looking washcloth but for a more finished look, you can sc evenly around the entire washcloth, placing 3 sc sts into each corner.
  • Weave all ends.
