Prismatic Headband/Earwarmer

Materials:

• Approximately 91-118 yds of Category 3 Light Weight Yarn; I used Lion Brand Mandala* in the Wizard colorway
• Size I 5.5 mm Furls Streamline Galaxy Borealis Crochet Hook*
• Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
• Scissors*

Abbreviations:

ch(s) – chain(s)
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)
tr – treble crochet
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

15.2 stitches & 10 rows = 4″ (in pattern st)

Finished Sizes:

• 12-24 Months – Fits 19″ head size
• 3-5 Years – Fits 20″ head size
• 6-10 Years – Fits 21″ head size
• Adult Small – Fits 22″ head size
• Adult Medium – Fits 23″ head size
• Adult Large – Fits 24″ head size

Multiple:

Chain a multiple of 2 + 2

Notes:

• This pattern is written in US terms.
• Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
• This pattern is worked flat and seamed at the ends to create the headband/earwarmer (see finishing instructions below for seaming information.)

12-24 Months:

Ch 12
Row 1: 1 sc into the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (11 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1,1 sc into the first st, *1 tr into the next st, 1 sc into the next st; Repeat from * across working 1 sc into the last st, turn. (11 sts)
Row 3-52: Repeat Row 2
Row 53: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. (11 sts)

3-5 Years:

Ch 14
Row 1: 1 sc into the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc into each st across, turn. (13 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1,1 sc into the first st, *1 tr into the next st, 1 sc into the next st; Repeat from * across working 1 sc into the last st, turn. (13 sts)
Row 3-56: Repeat Row 2
Row 57: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st across, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. (13 sts)

Finish:

• Lay your headband flat. Bring the ends together so that they meet in the middle.
• Fold each end in half lengthwise and pinch them at the ends.
• Place the two folded ends together, sandwiching them together and making sure the stitches are aligned.
• Using the yarn tail and yarn needle, stitch the ends together, making sure to work through all four pieces of the fabric.
• Fasten off, weave all ends.
• Turn the headband inside out so that the knot is on the inside.
