Finished Size:
Sandal length: 3.5” {to fit a newborn – 3 months baby}
Notes:
- You can make bigger size using a thicker yarn or next size crochet hook or by changing the length of initial chain in sole and make corresponding changes.
Instructions:
SOLE: {with White yarn}
- Ch 10.
- SC in the 2nd chain from the hook. SC in the next 7 chains, 5 SC in the last chain, (working on the other side of the chain) SC in the next 7 chains, 2 SC in the next chain. [22]
- Ch 2. 1 HDC in the same stitch, 1 HDC in each of the next 7 stitches, 2 HDC in 5 stitches, 1 HDC in each of the next 7 stitches, 2 HDC in each of last 2 stitches, SS with the top of Ch 2. [30]
- Ch 2. 1 HDC in the same stitch, 1 HDC in each of the next 12 stitches, 2 DC in 3 stitches, 1 HDC in each of the next 12 stitches, 2 HDC in each of last 2 stitches, SS with the top of Ch 2. [36]
- Fasten off and weave the ends (or leave it as such to join blue color later on).
STRAP: {with Blue yarn}
1. Ch 17
2. SC in the 2nd chain from the hook. SC in the next 6 chains, SS in the next two chains, SC in the next 7 chains. [16]
3. Turn your work and SS in the first SC of the previous round and in the next two {total of 3 SS}, Ch 12, SS in the 3rd chain from the last of the previous round, SS two more times.
4. Fasten off and weave the ends.
This is how your strap will look like. The chain 12 you made is for it to help the sandal stay in place on the baby’s feet. You can replace this with separate chains and join it onto the strap to tie it in place. You can also use elastic covered with fabric and sew in onto the strap or crochet around the elastic and use it. It is your choice.
This is how your strap will look like once it is complete.
JOINING THE STRAP TO THE SOLE:
- Now place the strap above the sole.
- Join blue yarn to the sole where you finished it and Ch 1. SS in to the next stitch and in next 4 stitches on the sole.
- Join one side of the strap on to the sole by SS the strap and sole together using 2 SS. (like the picture below).
- Continue to SS around 20 times and join the next side of the strap to the sole like above with 2 SS and again continue to SS till the end.
- Fasten off and weave the ends.
Now this is how the sandal will look like at this stage.
MAKING THE TOE PART:
1. Your strap now has a 2 SS in the centre. Take the Blue yarn, make a slip knot and position it like the picture below.
2. Chain 4 and SS on the sole {slightly towards the right for the left sandal and vice versa}.
3. Chain 4/5 depending on the baby’s toes size and again join it to form the Toe loop onto the sole.
4. Fasten off and weave the ends.
This is what it will look like.
Make another one with these above steps. {with the Toe loop on the other side}.
You can also make it without the back strap.
I hope you like it.
Happy crocheting!
