This week I am going to show you the Floret Stitch in this photo tutorial, plus give you instructions for Santa’s Little Dishcloth in sizes 6″ x 6″, 9″ x 9″ and 12″ x 12″. dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
t-ch – turning chain

Gauge:

3.8 sts & 2.2 rows = 1″

Finished Sizes:

6″ x 6″
9″ x 9″
12″ x 12″

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US terms
  • Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
  • This pattern is written for a 6″ x 6″ dishcloth with stitch counts for 9″ x 9″ and 12″ x 12″ written in parenthesis. The 9″ dishcloth stitch counts will be written in italics and the 12″ dishcloth stitch counts will be written in bold.

With Color A, Ch 23

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (count as dc)

Row 1 cont’d: Work 1 dc into each st across.

Row 1 cont’d: Change to Color B in the last yarn over of the last st, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1

Row 2 cont’d: Sk the first st, *1 dc in the next st

Row 2 cont’d: sl st in the next st** Repeat from * to ** across until 2 sts remain (1 sts and t-ch)

Row 2 cont’d: 1 dc in the next st

Row 2 cont’d: sl st in the t-ch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (count as dc)

Row 3 cont’d: Sk the first st, 1 dc in the next st.

Row 3 cont’d: Work 1 dc into the top of the sl st

This will give you approximately an 6″ x 6″ square. You can add a simple sc border around the square to finish it off.

Written Instructions:

Ch 23 (35, 47)
Row 1: Work 1 dc into the 4th ch from hook (count as dc), work 1 dc into each st across, turn. Change to Color B (21, 33, 45)
Row 2: Ch 1, sk the first st, *1 dc in the next st, sl st in the next st** Repeat from * to ** across until there are 2 sts remaining, work 1 dc in the next st, work 1 sl st into the t-ch, turn. (21, 33, 45)
Row 3: Ch 3 (count as dc), work 1 dc into each st across, turn. Change to Color A. (21, 33, 45)
Row 4-5: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color B
Row 6-7: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color A
Row 8-9: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color B
Row 10-11: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color A
Row 12-13: Repeat Rows 2-3 (fasten off for 6″ dishcloth) Change to Color B for other sizes.
Row 14-15: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color A
Row 16-17: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color B
Row 18-19: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color A
Row 20-21: Repeat Rows 2-3, (fasten off for 9″ dishcloth) Change to Color B for 12″ dishcloth
Row 22-23: Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color A
Row 24-25: 
Repeat Rows 2-3, change to Color B
Row 26-27: Repeat Rows 2-3 (fasten off for 12″ dishcloth)

Fasten off, weave all ends.

Finish:

You can add a simple border by joining your yarn with a sl st in one of the stitches, sc evenly around placing 3 sc sts in each corner, join in beginning sc with an invisible join. Fasten off, weave ends.
