Happy Thursday! Welcome to this week’s Let’s Learn a New Crochet Stitch – Kitchen Crochet Edition event. This week I am going to show you the Shell Blocks Stitch pattern and give you the instructions to turn it into a 7.5″ x 7.5″ dishcloth, with a photo tutorial. Happy Crocheting!

Shell Blocks Crochet Dishcloth Pattern and Tutorial

ch(s) – chain(s)
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)
t-ch – turning chain
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Multiple:

8+6

Gauge:

3.6 sts & 1.3 rows = 1″

Finished Size:

7.5″ x 7.5″

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US crochet terms.
  • The sizes are an approximation. They will not be exact. Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.

Photo Tutorial:

With Color A, Ch 30

Row 1:  1 sc into the 6th ch from hook (count skipped sts as 1 dc, ch 1, sk 1 st),

Row 1 cont’d: *Sk 2 sts, 5 dc into the next st

 Row 1 cont’d: sk 2 sts, 1 dc into the next st

Row 1 cont’d: Ch 1

Row 1 cont’d: sk the next st, 1 dc into the next st.**

 Row 1 cont’d: Repeat from * to ** across, turn. (27 sts)

Row 2: Ch 4 (count as a 1 dc and ch 1)

Row 2 cont’d: Sk the first dc and the ch-sp, 1 dc into the next dc

Row 2 cont’d: *Sk 2 sts, 5 dc into the next st,

Row 2 cont’d: sk 2 sts, 1 dc into the next st,f

Row 2 cont’d: ch 1, 

Row 2 cont’d: sk the ch-1 from previous row, 1 dc into the next st**

Row 2 cont’d: Repeat from * to ** across, working the last dc into the t-ch, turn. (27 sts)

Row 3-9: Repeat Row 2
Row 10: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st and ch-sp across, fasten off and weave all ends.

Row 2: Ch 4 (count as 1 dc and ch 1), sk the first dc and ch-1 sp, 1 dc into the next st, *sk 2 sts, 5 dc into the next st, sk 2 sts, 1 dc into the next st, ch 1, sk the next ch-sp, 1 dc into the next st** Repeat from * to ** across working the last dc into the t-ch, turn. (27)
Row 3-9: Repeat Row 2
Row 10: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st and ch-sp across, fasten off and weave all ends.
