Who doesn’t love to create the perfect picot stitch? The picot was one of the first “border” stitches I learned and it is still one of my go-to stitches for fun texture and a beautiful finish. Tropical Sunset Fingerless Mitts

Materials:

• Approximately 90-140 yds of Category 4 Worsted Weight Yarn; I used Chroma Twist Worsted* in the Tiki colorway
• Size I 5.5mm Crochet Hook*
• Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
• Scissors*

Abbreviations:

BL – back loop
ch(s) – chain(s)
hdc – half double crochet
RS – right side
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
sp – space
st(s) – stitch(es)
WS – wrong side
() – indicates stitch counts

Gauge:

15.2 stitches & 10.4 rows = 4″ (in pattern stitch)

Adult Extra Small – 6″
Adult Small – 7″

• This pattern is written in US terms.
• Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
• This project is worked flat and seamed to create the fingerless mitts.

Instructions:

Adult XS (Make 2):

Ch 31
Row 1: (RS) 1 hdc into the 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc into each remaining st across, turn. (30 sts)
Row 2: (WS) Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, turn. (30 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc into the first st, 1 hdc into the BL of each of the next 28 sts, 1 hdc into the last st, turn. (30 sts)
Row 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st across, turn. (30 sts)
Row 5-14: Repeat Rows 3-4
Row 15: Repeat Row 3
Row 16: Repeat Row 4, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Adult Small (Make 2):

Ch 31

Row 24: Repeat Row 4, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Finish:

• Bring both ends of the fingerless mitt together so that beginning row meets the end row, with the WS facing out.
• Using the yarn tail and a yarn needle, whip stitch the ends together, leaving 4-5 open for the thumb hole. I recommend trying the mitt on as you sew it up to adjust the thumbhole so that it fits comfortably.
• Turn mitt RS out.
• Join yarn at the top and sc evenly around.
• Join yarn at the bottom and sc 16 (18, 22, 24) around, join into the beginning sc. Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, ch 3, 1 sc into the 3rd ch of the ch-3, 1 sc into the next st (picot made), *1 sc into the next st, ch 3, 1 sc into the 3rd ch of the ch-3, 1 sc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc.
• Repeat for other mitt.
• Weave all ends.
