Crochet Santa Ornament – Free Pattern

This year, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in a lovely ornament exchange hosted by Amy at One Artsy Mama. It was so exciting because I have never participated any kind of exchange before. I was even more excited when I got Amy, herself. I love her blog and admire her greatly so it was a true honor to make an ornament for her. Since I am a crocheter and so is Amy, I decided to make a crocheted ornament. Plus, I wouldn’t be worried about it breaking or being damaged in transit. I came up with this crocheted Santa Claus ornament. I’m glad to say that Amy loved it and so did her adorable little man =) After sending it to her, I figured, why not share it with you all so you can make one as well. The pattern is an intermediate pattern. I hope you enjoy it and make one for your Christmas tree!

Hi, I was wondering why you join your rounds with a slip stich instead of just continuing to work in the round?

Hi Jenny! There are several ways of working rounds in crochet. I chose to join because it is easier for some of my beginner crocheter readers to understand. You can always work in a continuous round if you rather do it that way 🙂

    Help please.

I’m making this ornament and when doing the Loopy beard I ended up with the beard on the wrong side. I tried ch1 and turn and then did the beard but had the red yarn showing. Please help.

Nevermind. I figured it out. I did one row of white and then ch 1 and turned then did the loopy beard. That corrected the beard from ending up on the wrong side. 🙂

How did you get the beard to look that way? When I follow the tutorial for the double loop stitch I end up seeing red from the previous row between each stitch. on the wrong side of the work it comes out clean but I couldn’t figure out how to have the loops and the clean look of the stitch on the same side of the work.

If it’s giving you a hard time and you still have the red showing through, try adding a round of white before you start the loop round. Hope that helps!
