Welcome to the Scarf of the Month Club!

I am so excited about the new gorgeous scarf patterns that we have for you for the month of October!

If you are new to the Scarf of the Month Club, it is a series of free scarf/cowl patterns that are created by The Stitchin’ Mommy (me!) and Oombawka Design. Every month, Rhondda and I will each share one free crochet pattern for a scarf, infinity scarf, or cowl/neckwarmer, through December 2016. Plus, as a bonus, we have some amazing Mystery Designers that will also be providing free scarf patterns. By December, you will have 36 scarf/cowl patterns to choose from to make as gifts or create for yourself!

Materials:

• Approximately 446 yds of Category 4 medium yarn;  I used Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball in the Feng Shui Grey colorway*
• Size I 5.5 mm Crochet Hook*
• Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
• Scissors*

Abbreviations:

ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
FHDC – foundation half double crochet
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)
sp(s) – space(s)
t-ch – turning chain
() – indicates stitch counts
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

17.6 stitches & 9.2 rows = 4″

Finished Size:

Approximately 8″ wide and 68″ long

2+1 +1 for foundation chain

Notes:

• This pattern is written in US terms.
• Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
• The yarn used for this project is a little thinner than a normal category 4 medium worsted yarn. Any yarn substitutions may result in different sizing.

Instructions:

Row 1: FHDC 35 (or ch 36, 1 hdc into the 2nd ch from hook and in each st across), turn. (35)
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc into the first st, *ch 1, sk the next st, 1 hdc into the next st; Repeat from * across, turn. (18 hdc and 17 ch-1 sps)
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st and ch-sp across, turn. (35)
Row 4-153: Repeat Rows 2-3

Finish:

• Weave all ends.
• You will have left over yarn that can be used for a fringe if desired.
