Frankie the Frog – Free Crochet Pattern

Materials:

• Approximately 43 yds of Category 4 Medium Weight Yarn; I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran* yarn in 630, Grass Green
• Size H 5 mm Furls Streamline Crochet Hook*
• Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
• Scissors*
• Stitch Marker*
• 12mm Safety Eyes (2)*
• Fiber Fill Stuffing*
• Embroidery Floss* in Pink
• Embroidery Needle*

ch – chain
sc – single crochet
sc dec – single crochet decrease
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch

Gauge:

16 stitches & 14 rows = 4″ (in sc)

• Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
• This project is worked in the round. You will join after each round, where indicated.
• Use a stitch marker to mark your place to help identify where the rounds start and end.

Instructions:

Body:
Magic Circle, ch 1
Round 1: Work 6 sc into the magic circle, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (6 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc into each st around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (12 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, *1 sc into the next st, 2 sc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (18 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1, *2 sc into the next st, 1 sc into each of the next 2 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (24 sts)
Round 5: Ch 1, *1 sc into each of the next 3 sts, 2 sc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (30 sts)
Round 6: Ch 1, *2 sc into the next st, 1 sc into each of the next 4 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (36 sts)
Round 7: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (36 sts)
Rounds 8-14: Repeat Round 7
Round 15: Ch 1, *1 sc into each of the next 4 sts, 1 sc dec over the next 2 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (30 sts)
Round 16: Ch 1, *1 sc into each of the next 3 sts, 1 sc dec over the next 2 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (24 sts)
Round 17: Ch 1, *1 sc into each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc dec over the next 2 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (18 sts)
Begin stuffing with fiber fill
Round 18: Ch 1, *1 sc into the next st, 1 sc dec over the next 2 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st. (12 sts)
Continue stuffing until you are satisfied with the amount of fiber fill.
Round 19: Ch 1, *1 sc dec over the next 2 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st, fasten off. (6 sts)

Eyes (Make 2):
Magic circle, ch 1.
Round 1: 6 sc into the magic circle (Do not join). (6 sts)
Round 2: 2 sc into each st around. (12 sts)
Rounds 3-4: 1 sc into each st around. (12 sts)
Round 5: 1 sc into each st around, fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. (12 sts)

Finish:

• Attach safety eyes to the eye sections: Flatten the eye to make it look like a mini hat, position the safety eye where you want it to go, insert the safety eye through the eye section without going through both layers, fasten the safety eye on the inside of the eye section. Repeat for the other eye.
• Position and attach both eyes to the side of the frog using the yarn tails and yarn needle. I positioned my eyes 3 rounds from the center of the top of the head and set a little further back from the middle.
• Embroider the face using an embroidery needle and embroidery thread. I used pink for mouth and made a “V” shape but feel free to embroider any kind of mouth you wish.
