Limitless Afghan Square – Free Crochet Pattern
Hi everyone! It’s my turn to share my square pattern for the You’ve Got Options CAL! Materials:
- Approximately 104 yds of Category 4 Medium Yarn in two colors:
- Approximately 56 yds of Color A; I used Vanna’s Choice* in the Linen colorway
- Approximately 48 yds of Color B; I used Knit Picks Preciosa Tonal* in the Pewter colorway
- Size I 5.5 mm Crochet Hook*
- Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
- Scissors*

ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
FPdc – front post double crochet
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
sp – space
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch counts
[] – indicates instructions to be worked into one stitch
* – indicates instructions to be repeated
Gauge:
14 stitches & 12 rows = 4″ (in hdc)
Finished Sizes:
- 6″ Square (For a 6″ square, stop after Round 8)
- 12″ Square
Notes:
- This pattern is written in US terms.
- Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
- Corner chain stitches are not counted in the final stitch count at the end of the round.
- For a 6″ square, stop after Round 8.
Instructions:
With Color A,
Magic Circle, ch 1,
Round 1: Work 8 sc into the magic circle, join into beginning sc with a sl st. (8 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, [2 hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc] into the first st, 1 hdc into the next st, *[2 hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc] into the next st, 1 hdc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join into beginning hdc with a sl st. (20 sts)
Fasten off Color A
Round 3: Join Color B into any ch-1 sp with a sl st, ch 1, *[2 hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc] into the ch-sp, 1 hdc into the next st, ch 2, sk the next 2 sts, 1 hdc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join into beginning hdc with a sl st. (24 sts)
Fasten off Color B
Round 4: Join Color A into any ch-1 sp with a sl st, ch 1, *[1 hdc, ch 1, 1 hdc] into the ch-sp, 1 hdc into each of the next 3 sts, 1 dc into each of the next 2 skipped sts from Round 2, 1 hdc into each of the next 3 sts; Repeat from * around, join into beginning hdc with a sl st. (44 sts)
Fasten off Color A

Finish:
- Fasten off.
- Weave all ends.
- If your square is a bit wonky, I suggest wet blocking it. This will help the fabric relax into a normal shape.
