• Approximately 71-310 yds of Category 3 Light Weight Yarn; I used Lion Brand Mandala* in the Mermaid colorway
• Size H mm Furls Streamline Zodiac Aquarius Crochet Hook*
• Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
• Scissors*

• Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
• This hat is worked in the round and is joined after each round. You will also have to turn your work where indicated.

Newborn:

RIBBING:

Leaving approximately an 8″ long tail,
Ch 10
Row 1: 1 sc into 2nd ch from hook and into each st across, turn. (9 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 sc into the BL of the next 6 sts, 1 sc into the last st, turn. (9 sts)
Row 3-47: Repeat Row 2
Turn your work so that you are now working into the side of Rows 1-47, sc 47 sts evenly across, join in beginning sc, turn. (47 sts)

MAIN HAT:

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 sc into the first st, 1 sc into the next st, *ch 3, sk the next 3 sts, 1 sc into each of the next 2 sts; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc with a sl st, turn. (47 sts)
Round 2: Ch 3, sk the next 2 sts, work 5 dc into the next ch-sp, *sk the next 2 sc, 5 dc into the next ch-sp; Repeat from * around until there are 2 sts remaining, sk the next st, 1 dc into the last st, join into the beginning ch-3 with a sl st, turn. (47 sts)
Round 3-10: Repeat Rounds 1-2

Finish:

• Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
• Turn hat inside out so that the seam from the ribbing and closing of the top of the hat will be on the inside.
• Using the yarn tail from the ribbing and yarn needle, sew the ribbing together using the whip stitch method or mattress seam method.
• Using long tail from the top of the hat and a yarn needle, close up the hole in the center of the hat by weaving the yarn through the front loop of each stitch of the last round. Pull the yarn taught to cinch the center closed and weave yarn around the center to close any gap that may remain.
• If you are using a pom pom, place it into the center of the hat and sew into place using the pom pom strings. If your pom pom does not have strings and has an elastic band instead, you can sew a button onto the top of the inside of your hat and attach the pom pom to the button.
