• Approximately 156-221 yds of Category 4 Medium Weight Yarn; I used Lion Brand Mandala Ombre* in the Happy colorway
• Size I 5.5mm Furls Streamline Taurus Crochet Hook*
• Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
• Scissors*
• Stitch Marker* (optional)

Abbreviations:

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
() – indicates stitch counts
[] – indicates instructions to be worked in one stitch
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Gauge:

17.2 stitches & 12.4 rows = 4″ (in pattern st)

Finished Size:

• 3-5 Years – Fits 20″ head size
• 6-10 Years – Fits 21″ head size
• Adult Small – Fits 22″ head size
• Adult Medium – Fits 23″ head size
• Adult Large – Fits 24″ head size

Notes:

• This pattern is written in US terms.
• Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. If you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.
• This hat is worked in the round and is joined at the end of each round. A stitch marker comes in handy to help you mark the first stitch of each round but is not required. You will also be turning your work at the end of a round when indicated.

Instructions:

3-5 Years:

Magic Circle, ch 1
Round 1: Work 9 hdc into the magic circle, join in the beginning hdc with a sl st. (9 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc into each st around, join in the beginning hdc with a sl st. (18 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, *1 hdc into the next st, 2 hdc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join in the beginning hdc with a sl st. (27 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1, *1 hdc into each of the next 2 sts, 2 hdc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join in the beginning hdc with a sl st. (36 sts)
Round 5: Ch 1, *1 hdc into each of the next 3 sts, 2 hdc into the next st; Repeat from * around, join in the beginning hdc with a sl st. (45 sts)
