Title: Crochet Stitch Dictionary: 200 Essential Stitches with Step-by-Step Photos
Author: Sarah Hazell
Published by: Interweave/F+W
ISBN: 978-1-62033-129-3
Crochet Stitch Dictionary: 200 Essential Stitches with Step-by-Step Photos by Sarah Hazell, published by Interweave/F+W, is such an awesome book. It has 200 stitch patterns with step-by-step photo tutorials and charts too! I have owned my copy for quite a long time and I have to say it is one of my go-to stitch pattern books. I’ve learned so many new stitch patterns that have helped me take my crocheting to the next level. Crochet Stitch Dictionary is a great resource for beginners and experienced crocheters too! The book is divided into 9 sections, which include:
- Basic Stitches
- Fans and Shells
- Clusters, Puffs, and Bobbles
- Spikes
- Relief Stitches (Post Stitches)
- Mesh, Filet, and Trellis
- Crossed and Interlocking Stitches (Cable Stitches)
- Waves and Chevrons
- Decorative Stitches (Surface Crochet, Beading, etc.)
There are also a section for Essential Crochet Skills and Basic Stitches in the beginning of the book and a section with Symbols and Abbreviations at the end of the book. The beginning of the book also contains a beautiful table of contents with photos of each stitch pattern.
Let’s take a peek at a few of my favorite stitch patterns from Crochet Stitch Dictionary:
Aligned Puff Stitch, p100
This stitch is a great stitch for a scarf or cowl!

Crossed Ripple p125
I really love the look and texture of this stitch. It would make some great dishcloths or scrubbies!

Catherine Wheel, p82
This gorgeous stitch would be nice for an afghan that anyone would love to receive!

Spiked Boxes p104
This stitch has such an intricate look to it. The stitches appear to be woven together like a basket. This would make a great stitch for a basket/container or even an afghan.

The stitch patterns in Crochet Stitch Dictionary are great for crocheters of any skill level. If you start as a beginner, you can work your way up to the more difficult stitches and be a pro in no time! Already an experienced crocheter? Brush up on some stitches that you may have once known and have since forgotten or learn a stitch that you have never tried. This book would make a fabulous gift for any crocheter or someone wanting to learn the art of crochet!
